What is KDE (Linux)

KDE is a large number of individual applications, a desktop workspace as a shell to run these applications and a set of libraries they are build upon.

You can run KDE applications just fine on any desktop environment. KDE applications are built to integrate well with your system's components. By using also a KDE workspace, you get even better integration of your applications with the working environment while lowering system resource needs.

Other Shell that are worth noting are Gnome, UNITY, XFCE and LXDE, Munix is just a theme but I thing in the next couple of month or years they'll grow to become a desktop shell just like these. It is one of the Shells that are focusing on making sure that Linux looks beautiful. There are already many people working on making Linux a functional Operation system. Some one must focus on the Looks.
